SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Hundreds gathered in Santa Fe to raise money for regional independent filmmakers, and this year, a New Mexico favorite was honored.

It was a night to remember at the Santa Fe International Film Festival’s “A Gothic Gala.”

This year, Giancarlo Esposito, known for his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, received the Visionary Award.

“I feel great. It’s always wonderful to be honored, especially for something you love to do,” Esposito said. “Film is my life. It’s been the love affair of my life. Of course, it makes all the difference in the world to be here in New Mexico, where so many great productions have taken place, including one of the best television shows of this century, Breaking Bad.”

Esposito began his acting career on Broadway at 7 years old. He said what drew him to storytelling was the opportunity to draw inspiration from life and express himself to the creative family he has built over the years.

“Expression is everything in life. I think everyone wants to be seen, but it’s better to be seen if you’re able to express yourself and be appreciated for it,” he said.
